You've never worked for the government, have you?

I've worked with the government. Which helped convince me I wouldn't want to work for them.

You've certainly found an exception to the rule, though I wouldn't necessarily call most people who have to deal with the government "customers."

Yeah, well, most people don’t freelance for the occasional Agency spook when some dictator or drug lord needs to get dead under the table.

And if that particular customer ain’t right? Your ass can land in prison or some black ops hole with no real location, know what I mean?

I do know, and unfortunately, I can believe that. I've only ever done work with them through a buffer -- someone who's good at disappearing if that's necessary.

Sorry to hear it if you've been on the wrong side of these government customer service disasters. No one's going to make sure they're operating fairly.

Me and my team do what we can. I'm not above fucking with the government if I can get away with it, or if I have to. Hell, I just ripped off one especially obnoxious asshole back home for five million when he tried to set my team up. Told us we were assassinating a dictator, turned out we were supposed to clean up after a rogue agent and get killed in the process.

Money went to a good cause, though--rebuilding the country we were contracted to hit.

Ha ha, now that sounds satisfying. And like a well-earned paycheck. Frankly, I say all's fair once they set you up like that, and I expect that kind of person is always going to be willing to set you up like that.

That was good of you, though. What's the saying? Defrauding rich assholes and then living well is the best revenge?
