I'm not surprised! But the whole enterprise is set up to be the way it is! Nothing absolves you of the sin of being a customer!

So let me stereotype you based on the way you're sitting and say you worked in tech support or some kind of museum!

Ha ha. Even people who are on the other side of the counter the rest of the time can't work it off.

All right, that was good. I worked tech support, yes. In between electronic repair and IT, and I've switched to engineering and inventing since. They all have some overlap, and they're all full of people with bad posture.

The only solution is making every retail and restaurant environment like that one in Japan where the staff are rude to the customers.

What do you think about all this so far?

My own or anyone's? I really can't narrow down the latter. For the former, probably the homunculi. Little flying imp robots with as close to AI as I could give them, specifically programmed to be troublemakers. There's just something charming about them. [He'd even voiced them! That's not why he finds them charming, really, it's a product of it.]

I'll give you that one, that sounds like the greatest thing since and including sliced bread.

We'd have to completely overhaul tipping culture, but we should be doing that anyway.

The Outsider is trouble. The place is what you make it, within reason. And I like to work outside of reason, so I'm biased against them! Why, what do you think?

Sounds like you have big plans. Care to share them as freely as your thoughts on caps lock?

Ha ha, well, reason doesn't exactly work the way I'm used to here, so I certainly wasn't thinking of it as confining. Trouble, though? Personally I haven't seen any reason to think this isn't what the Outsider claims it to be just yet. I'm always open to new evidence, but as long as time is barely passing for us in the waking world and we aren't actually being harmed, I'm all right with it.

Sure, why not? None of them have had names before.

I don't see why not. For one thing I also don't see why Bad Moon Rising gets to have all the fun controlling the ant farm. But that's small change compared to the main event. If I can get enough people on board with me I vote we crack this baby open and bleed the dreaming world into the so-called "real world". Remix the buzzkill aspects of three dimensional living. Really customize the joint.

It's mostly their reason I'm not fond of! And they're not harming us so far, but you'd be surprised... Or maybe you wouldn't.

Wait, you want to mix the Dreamscape with the waking world and change how reality and physics work? Is that actually possible?

I wouldn't be surprised; I just don't want to start making unfounded assumptions. I'll be keeping an eye out, but I think it's best to believe what I'm hearing and seeing for now. What reason do you not like?

Pal with me at the helm, it's not only possible, it's probable! I did something real similar once before. But even I'm not crazy enough to do the same exact thing twice so I have better plans this time. I bet you'd like it, you seem the type just from this brief conversation. You like taking things apart to see how they work, don't you? It's not much different.

That's very interesting. You're right, I'd be interested in seeing this happen. I've already been thinking there's a lot about this Dreamscape that's superior to the waking world, but at the same time I don't want to stay forever. If it is possible to improve the waking world, I don't see why we shouldn't.

No, that's fair. I thought you might have a more specific grievance. Right now, they seem fine, but so do you. And if you don't like being told what to do, I'm guessing even being told "make friends with people and then mess with the Dreamscape within this framework" isn't going to be appealing.
