I appreciate the contributions The Beatles made, but I admit I don't think they're the definitive band. As far as lyrics and themes go, other artists' songs are just as good or better.

I prefer The Who. I’d rather listen to “Magic Bus” than “Sgt. Pepper.”

Yeah, they're a good band too. I think a lot of music artists' talents define each generation, instead of it just being one or two doing most of it. And in any case, I'd rather listen to almost any '60s or '70s band instead of what we've got today.

It was a rough time, but I gotta admit: the music that came out of the war was pretty great.

[Radley is about to comment on enjoying '80s music too and then ponders at that phrasing. "The" war? That's the definitive war for John? Maybe that means he was in it. Radley will have to be careful at calling '70s or '80s music oldies, since that could be close to his time period.]

Yeah, there was a lot of good talent. I'm not a songwriter myself, but I like performing some of those songs.

I prefer The Who to the Beatles. Stones, little bit, but mostly The Who.

The Stones are great, but I've never been a big Who fan. Nor Pink Floyd. Don't know why. I guess I just like the pop formula better.

I like her okay. I think--couple guys in my unit liked country music. I think I remember hearing some of her stuff.

Music's one of those things, I think! Call it whatever you want, catharsis, meditation, relaxation. I always get a little solace from a musical number. I play piano! Not so well, mind you, but I enjoy doing it, and that's more important.
