John's laughter, the touch of familiar lips against his wrist, his words--all of it eases some of the anxiety that has been thrumming through Jack's entire body ever since he heard Gray using that name he hadn't heard in centuries, held tight as he refused to let it manifest in any form lest it destroy him.
"And I was worried you wouldn't be coming back," his words are full of a watery laugh, but he's smiling as he moves to press his lips to the underside of John's jaw. "Kept stopping over to check. Wasn't planning that when I went walking just now but guess my hopeless romanticism got the better of me." I needed to see you. Needed you to help me keep those memories buried. He can't let himself say all that in words, though. Not yet. Preferably not ever. But his body's always been so good at speaking for him anyway so he lets it keep going, fingers still holding tight to John's back as he trails kisses down the side of John's neck to his shoulder.
