In all seriousness, in a real survival situation you might not have the option of choosing what you ended up with. The greatest resource a person could have is their mind. The ability to think on your feet and calmly assess the scenario would be imperative.

If I was ever in a position where I absolutely had to choose three items, and I couldn't just leave the island.. then I would want them to be things that would difficult to build yourself but were durable- capable of multiple uses.
