Blimey, you can't tell what the blood belongs to without licking it. Furthermore, your eyes are the weakest of the senses and can lie to you and can be fooled by psychic projections but stuff like taste and smell can't be mimicked.

Humans don't want to admit it but they spend the first three years of their lives licking everything. They know EXACTLY how something is going to feel on their tongue when they look at it, no matter how weird or gross or how much they would not put it in their mouths under ordinary circumstances.
